Mermin and Mime in March!
The Next Memory Cafe Saturday, March 11th, 2017 10 AM to 11:30 AM Montpelier Memory Cafe welcomes Rob Mermin's Pantomime Project Rob Mermin, founder of Circus Smirkus, trained with renowned mime Marcel Marceau, before embarking on a 40‐year career in the circus world. He currently teaches the Parkinson's Pantomime project at the Montpelier Senior Activity Center. He joins us at Montpelier Memory Cafe to lead us in fun, engaging movement activities that apply to anyone experiencing movement difficulties, their families, and their friends!
At Memory Cafe, we are aware of the mind/body connection. Dementia is often accompanied by balance issues and other movement disorders. Rob Mermin uses basic mime technique as a method for helping to cope with movement limitations. The circus games are geared for delightful fun; Rob plays with balancing feathers, manual dexterity, coordination, postural awareness, and development of reflexes. The mime and circus together foster awareness and ease of movement in daily activities. Rob uses music, games, and the mime principles of Marcel Marceau. No theater experience required. Just fun, with a purpose !
